Care
Silk, gold-tone steel and pearls age well, provided they are treated gently. Here is what works, and what ruins them.
Silk day to day
Silk is a living fibre: it breathes, relaxes, returns to shape. A scarf you have worn almost never needs washing — airing it overnight over the back of a chair restores it.
Apply perfume and hairspray before tying it, never after: alcohol marks the fibre and dulls the colours for good.
Untie it at the end of the day rather than leaving it knotted: a crease held long enough settles in.
Washing a scarf
By hand, in cold water, with a drop of mild soap or silicone-free shampoo. Dip, press gently, rinse thoroughly. Do not rub, do not wring, do not soak for more than five minutes.
A spoonful of white vinegar in the rinse water revives the colours and clears any soap residue.
When in doubt — a settled stain, a hand-printed piece — have it dry-cleaned. A cleaner costs less than a ruined scarf.
Drying and pressing
Roll the scarf in a towel to draw out the water, then dry it flat, in the shade, away from any heat source. Direct sun fades silk within hours.
Press it while still slightly damp, at a low temperature — silk setting, no steam — protected by a fine cloth. Never a dry iron on fully dry silk: the fibre glazes and the mark never comes out.
Jewellery
Our jewellery is made of 316L stainless steel with an 18K gold PVD coating. The steel does not rust or tarnish; the coating is far tougher than ordinary gilding, but it wears with friction and with repeated contact with chlorine and salt.
Take it off for swimming, the sea and sport. After wearing, a wipe with a soft dry cloth is enough to remove perspiration and cream.
To bring back the shine: warm soapy water, a very soft toothbrush, a rinse, then dry straight away. Never use abrasives, polishing paste or silver cloths: they remove the gold-tone coating.
Freshwater pearls need more care: they are organic and porous. Put them on last, once perfume, cream and hairspray are applied, and take them off first. Wipe them with a barely damp soft cloth, with no product, and never immerse them in water.
Storing
- Store scarves rolled rather than folded: no crease sets in.
- Keep the case: it shields from light, dust and rubbing.
- Store chains separately, flat or hanging — two chains in one pouch tangle and scratch.
- Store pearls flat, in a soft pouch, away from metal pieces that scratch them.
- Keep them out of the bathroom: constant damp is the enemy of both silk and metal.
What to avoid
- The washing machine and tumble dryer, even on a delicate cycle.
- Bleach, stain removers, enzyme or whitening detergents.
- Drying in the sun, on a radiator or with a hairdryer.
- Perfume and hairspray sprayed onto the piece.
- Jewellery worn in the pool or the sea.
- Abrasives and polishing cloths on gold-tone pieces.
- Perfume, cream and water on pearls.
Unsure about a piece
